I took this photo around 1988 or so--just before the Marks & Spencer building on the corner of Fort and Douglas streets closed. Most of the block was levelled for the construction of the Victoria Eaton Centre. The two storey building on Fort St. on the extreme left of the photo was the entrance to the Eatons menswear department. Today, the facade remains and is home to a barber shop and a sushi restaurant. The art-deco panels on the second floor of the M&S builidng were salvaged and later installed on the second floor facade of the new relocated McDonald's restaurant which can be seen under construction on the right of the photo. The fourth panel in from the left has already been taken out. In June, 2006 one of the leftover panels was installed in a concrete plinth on Pandora Ave. near the Roastery Coffee shop next to MEC in the Vogue building.

Also visible are a couple of GMC "fishbowl" buses, the last of which was taken out of regional service in 2006.
